I see God in the nothingness empty see through warmth worming its way through intricacies of veins squishy lungs rhythmic machine named heart In the in and out blending, this atmospheric nothingness dancing in synergy, then swoosh back in I see God I see God brain exploding full to the brim pulsating with???!!! with screams…
Author: LauraNyahuye - Designer - Story Teller
My name is Laura Nyahuye, a mother to 2 beautiful girls. l'm an Adornment Designer - Storyteller. I create body Adornments with the aim to encourage women. WOMAN!.....'you are not alone, you can do this and you will'.
My work draws from my journey in life, my beliefs as a Christian and a deep desire to reach out to fellow women.
l see a woman as a Heartbeat, a Thermostat to the family, to the community and society as a whole.
Have you ever asked yourself why God chose a woman to be the carrier of life? Women have a unique and an undefinable ingredient inside of them whether they are mothers or not.......
l'm fully convinced that this special ingredient when placed in the right environment it will produce mind boggling results.
My plan in life certainly didn't include making Avant Garde Designer Pieces. I Studied Applied Arts with the intention of specializing in Textiles.
My creative journey began when l was 6yrs of age. l was a Doodler, a Day dreamer. My Mom was what they call a 'seamstress' well l didn't call her that back then. All l knew was whenever there was an event, special day coming up, my sisters and l always woke up to a new dress. We would squeal and scream with limited joy (l say 'limited' because my friends dresses always seemed more appealing because they were bought from a shop!). What a shame! At least now, l know better! Looking back l realise and appreciate how creative my mother was, l remember she used to say, everyday of the week had a colour in her mind (she saw days in colour in her minds eye! incredible!). Its saddening that l never got the chance to really explore that with her. One thing lm really grateful for is l inherited some creative genes from her.
As l mentioned earlier l became an Adornment Maker by 'Call' it wasn't on my planner.
I studied at Coventry university for Applied Art Degree.
That time of my life was pretty challenging. I faced various personal challenges and my escape route was my conversations with God. l would simply pour my heart out to Him whenever, wherever. Creative classes in the Uni studios were my therapy....... I would walk into the studio and throw myself into my practical work (clay work, textiles, jewelry....you name it!!)... Within a few minutes or so, l would be lost in my work...so lost that l would forget that at some point l'm gonna get up from there and go home. Creativity/Art has more to give.... than it being a Piece or an Object of desire......... I personally believe there's a lot more to discover in the therapeutic processes Art/Creativity has on humans.
I have to admit finding my Niche was not easy. l managed to explore various subject areas (ceramics, printing, textiles and jewellery). Towards the end of my studies l found myself settling in the jewellery department (my nightmare! Don't ask me how l ended up there). Well, to cut the long story short, in the jewellery department, my design ideas and ways of thinking were challenged. Most importantly l found Me, My Niche.
My Final collection for my degree show was a manifestation of 'the silent voice' the woman that was trapped inside my head.
It was an expression of Pain, Joy and Beauty. It was the beginning of my Story ...............
Fast forwarding to now....... As l mentioned above l create Avant-Garde Adornments, l create Artefacts for Social Impact. l aim to tell a story about WOMEN capture their Strength, Vulnerability, Beauty, Tenacity, Pain,Joy the list is endless. l tend to focus on Migration, Domestic Abuse, Women empowerment and isolation.
I am passionate about challenging what an accessory should look like, Hence my Mantra 'no Limit no Boundaries'.
In this blog l will post women's stories to inspire and to challenge each other. I will post some of my work, stories and poems.
l Design and Handmake all the body Adornments from start to finish. It can admittedly be a long and laborious process, however the vision keeps me going. My Desire is to get the message across the Globe and touch one life at a time. Its worth it.
